Friends of Holly Wood Nature Reserve.

Coleman & Company, a world-leading demolition firm based in Great Barr celebrated 50 years in business earlier this year and to mark the occasion they committed time, money and manpower into improving this important woodland. They cleared trees which were dominating patches of the wood, flattened walkways, created a pond and created a wildflower area. They also asked Tim Tolkien to design a new gate with the help of children from the nearby school.

This regeneration has led to an increased useage by many people and the creation of a friends of Holly Wood Nature Reserve group. Being a friend of Holly Wood does not require a great deal of your time at all. We just want local people to have a say in what happens to the woods and we want it to be used and enjoyed by all. There are going to be fornightly work parties led by a Sandwell Park Ranger to keep on top of bramble and weed clearing and other jobs. There are plans to add a bridge over the stream that runs through the wood, to add sculptures, to graze animals in the meadow as part of natural wildflower management and to run events in the wood such as health walks.
